Gaetano registered for the draft in Philadelphia, PA on 30
June 1942. He was inducted into the Army in Newark, NJ on 23 October
1942. Pvt Mastorio was transferred from Fort Dix, NJ
to Company D, 508th PIR on 3 November 1942. He was
declared a qualified parachutist on 5 March 1943. On 4 April 1943 he
was listed as "transferred" but with no indication of destination.
However, he did re-enlist on 14 November 1945 and at some time left the
service with the rank of Specialist 6th Class,
Gaetano submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII
Veterans Bonus on 1 April 1950. He was credited with 30 months of
domestic duty and 11 months of foreign service which entitled him to a $465
bonus payment. |
