508TH RECON COMBAT TEAM - HQ HQ, FORT BENNING, GA - 1950's
Cpl S. T. Labounty Cpl J. E. Lane Cpl H. J. Lankford Col Joe Stallings Lawrie
commanded the 508th ARCT, 1951-52. He rose from the enlisted ranks and ultimately retired as a Major General.  On June 30, 1952 he addressed the regiment as he handed over his command:
"During the past months since it was my pleasure to join the 508th.  I have witnessed this organization grow to be a well trained, strong unit. It is due, in part to the superb quality of leadership shown on the part of the officers and non-commissioned officers of this Regiment.
The real credit for what we have achieved here goes to you, the men of the 508th who have shown your willingness to work toward a singular end. In your field work as well as in garrison, the effort displayed by you men has been of superior nature.
Wherever I go, I shall look back on my time spent with the 508th as one of the most productive periods in my military career. I am proud to have been associated with such an organization and there will be always a spot in my memory for you, the officers and men of the 508th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Wear the patch proudly and I wish you God speed and happy landings."
