| ROBERT B WHITE,15337117, Sergeant,
508th Parachute Infantry. For heroic conduct in action on 24 December 1944 at
****, BELGIUM. Sergeant WHITE, Squad Leader, Company "A", was assigned
the mission of covering a highway and two railway bridges which were
the possible avenues of an enemy attack. Seeing that the enemy was preparing
to attack, Sergeant WHITE, moved from foxhole to foxhole alerting his
men. With utter disregard for enemy mortar and small arms fire he walked
boldly from man to man encouraging and directing their defense. He personally
accounted for several of the enemy killed and wounded. The enemy attack
was repulsed because of his alertness. Throughout the attack his actions
were an inspiration to all members of his squad and was exemplary of
the highest ideals of the Army. Entered military service from ST. ALBANS, WEST VIRGINIA.
