Pvt Campbells
accurate and intensive delivery of [fire] upon enemy
strong points and hedge-row positions was the
determining factor in reducing of an enemy ambush. |

Pvt Campbell's unit
was advancing on an attack with Hill 131 as their
objective, when his co, was ambushed by
approximately 65 to 70 enemy troops equipped with
rifles, automatic weapons and grenades. |

Pvt Campbell and his
machine gun was the initial target of the enemy, and
though the ground and surrounding vegetation was
literally cut to pieces by enemy fire, he returned
all enemy fire after lifting the machine gun off the
tripod and with a belt of ammunition over his arm,
immediately advanced toward the enemy, pinning a
large portion of them down with deadly accurate
fire. |

terrific enemy fire, was mainly responsible for the
killing or capturing of all buty two of the enemy.
One of the two who escaped was wounded by his fire. |
