GOOD NEWS STORIES OF THE WEEK:

Panther of the Week: 1LT Joshua McCormick is the TF Engineer for 1-508 PIR. 1LT Joshua McCormick has proven to be a key member of the 1 Fury team. His most recent training event with 1-508 PIR was at the Leaders Training Program at Ft. Polk, LA. 1LT McCormick's incredible work ethic and intellect greatly improved the battalion's protection planning and our Intelligence Preparation for the Battlefield. 1LT McCormick has now worked with 1-508 PIR on three major training events that include Company Live Fire Exercises at Ft. Irwin, CA and the Brigade FTX in late June. 1LT McCormick has consistently exceeded expectations, and will continue to be a critical member of the 1 Fury team heading into the upcoming rotation at JRTC.
THIS WEEK:
This week the 1-508 PIR staff participated in the Leaders Training Program (LTP) in preparation for JRTC [storyboard attached]. With the amazing assistance of COL
(ret) Coach Mike Kershaw, the staff conducted MDMP for two orders - one analog and one digital - which greatly improved our staff's ability to execute the orders process, conduct COA analysis (wargaming), and update our planning SOP (PSOP). The staff also used LTP as a team-building event outside the classroom by conducting demanding PT every morning that included combatives, obstacle courses, sporting competitions, and an urban terrain orienteering event that tested unit history, airborne operations, and MDMP. Overall this was a priceless event for our staff that truly made us a more cohesive team, capable of providing our commander and subordinate commanders the options and direction they need to be successful on the battlefield.
NEXT WEEK:
Next week, 1-508 PIR's focus will be outload operations for JRTC. The companies will execute several ranges as part of a battalion weapons density week, including M4 zero/qual, MG zero/qual, M9 qual, AT4 firing, and M320 qualification. When not on the range, Paratroopers across the battalion will be conducting CLS training to increase our medical readiness. The battalion will execute an airborne operation on Tuesday as well, where we will exit 42 jumpers. The staff will conduct an internal staff CPX on Tuesday where we will set up our TOC and test all our systems one final time before JRTC. On Wednesday we will participate in the BCT's staff CPX as well down at the Mission Training Center.
AIRBORNE OPERATIONS:
This week, 1-508 PIR exited 99 Paratroopers on Wednesday. On Friday we will execute a heavy drop airborne operation consisting of one HMMWV and four CDS bundles.
LEADER DEVELOPMENT:
- 1-508 PIR currently has three leaders in Jumpmaster School and one future Jumpmaster on the "Needs PWAC" roster.
- 1-508 PIR has seven Paratroopers in Ranger School (5 x Darby, 1 x Mountains, 1 x Florida) and two Paratroopers in the current Pre-Ranger Course.
MAINTENANCE and EQUIPMENT:
This week to date, 1-508 PIR conducted services on 24 weapons, 0 NVGs (zero due), and 18 pieces of rolling stock. Additionally, we turned in, prepared for turn-in or transferred 21 pieces of excess equipment.
