1. Commander’s Comments:
1FURY’s major training events over the reporting cycle
included Leaders’ Training Program (LTP), Operational Readiness Survey (ORS),
and initiation of the 96 hour sequence for Panther Storm. Due to personnel
contracting COVID within the staff, 1FURY conducted LTP virtually while on
quarantine to prevent the further spread of the virus. Although unable to fully
exercise analog systems, the virtual environment enabled the staff to meet our
training objectives, refine our PSOP, and plan in parallel with BCT. Concurrent
with LTP, companies completed ORS preparations last week. IG initiated ORS this
week beginning with To Accompany Troop (TAT) equipment inspections. The
Battalion also initiated the 96 hour sequence this week in preparation for
Panther Storm. Looking forward, 1FURY will prioritize Panther Storm execution
next week and vehicle rigging at the Heavy Drop Rig Site (HDRS) for the Division
Readiness Cage (DRC) changeover in November.
2. Brief summary of activities over the last two
weeks by LOE.
·
Unbeatable LGOPs.
·
Paratrooper of the Week: SPC Rodney Gregg serves as 2nd
Platoon, C Company’s RTO. Over the past training quarter, SPC Gregg skillfully
managed 2nd Platoon’s radios in support of Panther Storm, Fury Fight
1, Fury Fight 2, Team and Squad Live Fire Exercises, and Platoon and Company
Live Fire Exercises. His performance during this period was phenomenal,
demonstrating expert competency. He also filled in for the Company’s senior
COMMO specialist during pre-ORS layouts. He is a motivated Paratrooper always
eager to accomplish the mission and get in the FIGHT!
·
o
Training at the individual and collective level: Companies focused
individual training on marksmanship and airborne proficiency. A/1-508TH
hosted two marksmanship LPDs for Squad Leaders and above, covering ITWS and AT
integration. B/1-508TH hosted an airborne proficiency LPD, addressing
bump plans, managing the airborne timeline, medical coverage, and actions in the
aircraft.
·
Deploy, Fight, and Win Anywhere in 18 Hours.
o
Battalion Staff conducted LTP to validate the PSOP and build staff
competency in preparation for JRTC RTN 21-04.
o
The Battalion completed preparation for ORS to assess our
readiness to assume IRB-1 on 07 December. Major focus areas include equipment
serviceability, SRP, chemical decon systems, and the Battalion Aide Station.
Vehicle readiness inspections at the MASA will occur later on 18 November.
o
Training: 1FURY participated in BCT’s IRON WEEK last week in
preparation for Panther Storm. The provided a critical opportunity for companies
to conduct cold load training for personnel and sling loads.
·
Transform the Division. The Battalion carried forward with
development of D Co “cavalry” teams to fight for information, combining the
mobility of the D Co HMMWV platforms with the fires offered by Battalion mortars
and the reconnaissance capability provided by Battalion scouts. This task
organization with add teeth to BCT’s reconnaissance and security operations,
assisting in our ability to destroy the enemy’s “eyes” and “ears” in the
reconnaissance battle.
·
Force Modernization: The Battalion received the maintenance
upgrade to each of the Company’s 60mm mortars. D Co also continued new equipment
training for the updated ITAS.
·
Live the Legacy: FRC, awards, reenlistment, LPDs, etc.: CPT Daniel
May and CPT Tyler Owen assumed command of A/1-508TH PIR and B/1-508TH
PIR, respectively, last Friday. 1FURY is looking forward to writing the next
chapter of our history with these commanders leading our Paratroopers.
3. Way Ahead: Describe activities/training events
over the next two weeks aligned against the Division’s 4 Lines of Effort.
·
Unbeatable LGOPs. The Battalion will conduct Panther Storm 20-01
next week. The training event offers the Battalion an opportunity to implement
airborne proficiency objectives outlined during our LPD last week for individual
actions and JM responsibilities. Additionally, the air assault mission will be a
first for many of our Paratroopers.
·
Deploy, Fight, and Win Anywhere in 18 Hours. Along our path for
IRB-1 assumption on 07 December, the Battalion will conduct DRC rigging at HDRS
next week for 9 platforms, including 7 x HMMWVs and 2 x trailers. Completion of
this task next week will enable the Battalion to resume focus on remaining ORS
alibi re-inspection tasks and preparation for Vehicle inspections at the MASA on
18 NOV.
·
Transform the Division. 1FURY will test the Division’s Airborne
Carry-On/Carry-Off (COCO) C2 system during the air assault in Panther Storm. The
on board suite of communication assets should provide enhanced communications
with ground elements, real time ASR feed from on-station attack aviation, TSM
voice comms for ITN, and JBCP.
·
Live the Legacy. B/1-508TH PIR will host FURY FRIGHT
NIGHT this Thursday for Battalion’s families. This FRG event will be phased by
time and separated in space to allow Paratroopers to bond with their families
while safeguarding against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
