TWO BROCTON SOLDERS
  PROVE ABILITY TO SHOOT

Pvts Harold Woleben and
  Walter Woods Make High
      Scores on Range

Brocton [NY], Jan 23 --- Two Brocton soldiers made fine scores in recent rifle range tests.
Pvt Harold R. Woleben, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Woleben, of the Marine corps stationed at Parris Island, S.C., received medals for expert use of rifle, pistol and bayonet. In rifle shooting tests he made 304 out of 340.
Pvt. Walter G. Woods, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Woods made a similar average.  After trying to enlist in the Marines and failing he finally enlisted in the paratroops at eighteen.  He has been in training for the past two months at Camp Blanding, Florida.  At the close of the seven week period, Pvt Woods won first prize in the rifle shooting contest of the 508th Parachute Infantry, by a score of 209 out of a possible 220.
On the machine gun range in a more recent test he was second high totaling 240 out off a possible 256.
Both boys are eager to use their skills to "get the same crack at the Japs."

JUMPMASTER NOTE: Not to begrudge Marine Pvt Woleben his moment in the limelight, but his score yielded 89.4% of possible points and was bested by Army Pvt Woods who earned 95.0% of the possible points in rifle marksmanship.    Woods also shot a 93.75% as a machine gunner.  Excellent scores with both weapons and  don't stand downrange of either of them.
