LT HENRY LEFEBVRE'S STICK FOR D-DAY |

Note
The aircraft ferrying Lt.
Lefebvre's stick on D-Day (ref photo below) was dubbed "Satan's
Revenge" (tail number 42-100863) and was flown by the 99th
Squadron of the 441st Troop
Carrier Group.
The same aircraft was used on
September 17, 1944 for the stick led by Lt. John Foley. On
that sortie, the aircraft was
hit by a heavy concentration of anti-aircraft fire near the drop
zone at Groesbeek and crashed in flames near Linden, NW of Cuijk killing its crew
of four and 508th paratrooper Ralph P.
Bellesfield. The crew members included pilot 1st Lt. James O.
Martin; co-pilot 1st Lt. Walter A. Voight of Red Rock, Texas; crew
chief Staff Sgt. Vernon C. Kassekert of St. Paul, Minn; and radio
operator Staff Sgt. Anthony P. Biondo of Akron, Ohio |
