PENSIONS
•• a number of men have asked questions about pensions. So we present below some of the main facts about pensions for veterans of the present war.  Who is entitled to pensions? Well to state the matter in a few words we may say that you are entitled to draw a pension only if you have become disabled, that is, if your ability to earn a livelihood has lessened.
.. If this disability is service connected you are entitled to a pension as a matter of right regardless of need. The amount will vary according to the amount of disability from $11.50 to $115 for total disability. For certain specific disability such as total blindness or loss of limbs this amount is increased by specified amounts up to a maximum of $265. The widow and children of veterans with service connected disabilities are also eligible for pensions regardless of need. Parents may be eligible if their income is insufficient otherwise.
.. Smaller pensions are also payable in case of total disability which is not service connected in case of need. The criterion is that income must be less than $1000 for a single veteran or less than $2500 for a married one. The widows and children of these veterans are also eligiblee providing the veteran had a disability due to service which if it had been of greater degree, a pension would have been payable, and need exists. This disability need not have been the cause of death.
.. All pensions are payable by the Veterans Administration and are not taxable. Other income from the V.A. such as National Service Life Insurance proceeds are not considered in determining need of dependents. Those individuals having service connected disabilities will be given an opportunity to file claim. for a pension before being discharged.
