Carolina Cataract
"Shorty (Odessa, TX), John, Ozzie [l-r]"
was all that John McCall wrote on this photo of he and two buddies at a waterfall.  The trio was probably on a three-day pass in the Carolina Mountains.
"Ozzie" may have been Edward C. Ozbolt, also of Company E.  Ozbolt was KIA 26 June 44.  Who "Shorty" was remains unknown.

"Caruso" was the note penned by Bill Giegold on this photo.  There were at least 2 508ers named Caruso but we presume that this is  James J. Caruso who, like Bill, was in Co F.

[l-r] Vance Jenkins, (Arthur?) Novak, (James?) Murphy, John Judefind, and (Millard or Robert) Smith.
Smith was nicknamed "Snuffy", after the cartoon character.
Despite this happy day at the beach, Smith drowned on D-Day in the flooded plains of the Merderet River.  Judefind was initially listed as MIA according to an entry in Lt. DeWeese's Diary and is listed as KIA on 8 August 44, probably denoting the day that his body was eventually recovered.  If he and Smith were in the same stick, they may have suffered the same fate.
