Army Private Melvin W. Roberson,
24, son of Mr. and; Mrs. Beauford Roberson, 915 Ellen St., Tarboro,
participated in "Operation Red Devil," one of the biggest.
parachute assault exercises ever held in the Canal Zone.
Pvt. Roberson, a rifleman in Company C, 3rd Battalion of the 508th
Infantry
stationed at Fort Kobbe, Canal Zone. His unit went through six weeks
training to become familiar with Vietnam-style jungle fighting.
Pvt. Earl D. Steele, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl C. Steele 3315
Mayfield St., Alton, recently took part in "Operation Red Devil",
one of the biggest parachute exercises ever held in the Panama Canal
Zone.
Pfc. David J. Compton,
19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Compton of 101 Richardson Drive,
recently participated in "Operation Red Devil," a parachute assault
in the Canal Zone.

Spec. 4 Leslie C. Hatfield,
19, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Hatfield, 371 Woodbine Drive,
Pensacola, recently participated in ' Operation Red Devil," one of
the biggest parachute assault exercises ever held in the Canal Zone.
Hatfield is a driver in Headquarters Company of the 508th Infantry's
3rd Battalion stationed at Ft. Kobbe, Canal Zone.

Pvt. Zane N. Gray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brodie Gray of Littlefield,
recently participated in "Operation Red Devil," one fo the biggest
parachute assault exercises ever held in the Panama Canal Zone. Gray
is an infantryman stationed at Ft. Kobbe, C.Z.

Army Pfc. Brent C. Nicastro, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred T. Nicastro, West Bend, participated in "Operation Red Devil"
in December, one of the biggest parachute assault exercises ever
held in the Panama Canal zone.
