Escape and Evasion Report

SECRET
 NO. REPORT 911

BLUFF

house to search it.  I walked right past the officers as they were standing in the yard.  I said "Bon Jour" to them, shook hands with the French couple and walked away.  The Germans were using the lower floor for an interrogation center.  I heard them interrogating American prisoners taken in the PONRARCY [sic] area.  From what I could hear through the floors the German interrogators could not get any of the American prisoners to talk.  He sounded pretty disgusted with all of them.

3 AUGUST HEARS AMERICAN FIRE

about 2 August the German front line troops began retiring.  There were so many German troops dropping in at the house that I moved out into the fields and hid out in a thicket.  On the morning of 3 August I heard rifle fire and knew that that the American lines were getting near.  The Frenchman came up at daybreak to see me and together we went out to contact the Americans.  We found the 3rd Bn of the 116th Inf, and I was taken to e questioned by intelligence officers all the way up to Corps.
