The name of the farmer with whom I first stayed was Joseph Osmont,
St Vigor des Desmont, Manche. when the Germans moved into the
Osmont farm I was taken to the farm of Louis Le Boucher who lived
near
Osmont. Le Boucher had a brother-on-law named François.
I stayed at the farm of this brother-in-law for a short period.
The Mayor of St Vigor knew that I was staying at these farms.
He was the only person besides the three families mentioned above
who knew of me.
I saw a Cpl Slagel Schlegel (E&E #888) from the
82nd AB while I was a prisoner. He was at one time in a German
paratroop unit and escaped to America where he either joined the US
Army or was drafted. When I observed him while he was a PW, he
seemed a bit friendly with the Germans. I asked him once why
he didn't try to escape. He said it was too dangerous to try to get
away. He was acting as an interpreter between the American PWs and
the Germans.
