APPENDIX "B" TO E AN D E REPORT NO. 999

 

 

1. The following information has been obtained from a corporal who escaped from the Germans in enemy occupied territory.

2. Further circulation of this information may be made, but in that
case it is important that any details as to the source are not divulged.

Statement of information covering period from 6 June 1944 to 8 August 1944.

a. Morale of regular army very low.  Gestapo and SS very
arrogant and confident when in groups, but alone will break down and admit the war is lost.

b. Very few supplies coming through from Germany.  The army is living off the land, and not too well.

c. The Germans prefer the Americans to the British and are in mortal fear of the Russia.

d. Front line units have 20 SS men and 4 Gestapo men assigned
to them so that they don't mutiny.

e. Heard doctor talking on telephone about 5000 troops proceeding N from BORDEAUX by foot and truck on 1 August.
