HIGHLIGHTS OF REGIMENTAL HISTORY

1945 Jan. 3Big American push to the southeast in an attempt to cut off the Bulge is started. The 508th in reserve.
  Jan. 7The 508th committed in an attack to retake the Thier-du-Mont ridge. After a bloody battle the 508th is in position before dark.
  Jan.10Regiment moves to the vicinity of Chevron, Belgium, to regroup.
  Jan.21The 508th is committed defensively at Diedenberg, attached to the 7th Armored division.
  Jan. 24Regiment returns to 82nd at Trois Ponts and Bois Badeaux.
  Jan. 28A strong push to the Siegfried Line starts at dawn.
  Jan. 29Holzheim is oaken by the 1st Battalion, First -Sgt. Leonard. Funk, Jr. earns Medal of Honor.
  Feb. 4508th relieved by the 99th Division.
  Feb. 8Trucks carry regiment to positions in the Hurtgen-.Schmidt area west of the Roer River.
  Feb. 101st Battalion takes Hill 400. 2nd Battalion rushes through, clearing; the area west of the Roer.
  Feb. 18Regiment prepares to entrain at Aachen for the base camp.
  Feb. 21 Regiment moved to tent area at Camp Sissonne.
  Apr. 3 Alerted for possible jump to liberate POWS, 508th moves to airfields near Chartres, France.
  May 8 V-E Day
  May 30 Returned to Camp Sissonne.
  June 10 Arrives in Frankfort-am-Main, Germany.
  Sep. 2 V-J Day
  Oct. 20 508th celebrates 3rd anniversary.
1946 June 6 French Fourragére awarded f or Normandy action.
  Oct. 20 Fourth anniversary.
  Nov. 24 Regiment inactivated at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, after returning from Frankfort, Germany, as a unit.
