The path leads through two towering shoulders of
massive formations of pillars which look like they have cracked into
separate stones carefully, stacked one above the other but yet about to
topple down. The Gate surveys a view of the ocean and the limited beach
along which lines the White Rocks, where one finds the "Giant’s Head" two
faced as it is. One looking across the waters, another back, is this
monstrous image of a mighty two headed giant.
And so for many miles along the coast, as well 'neath the waters leading to
Scotland, and along^ that coast, 'tis said this strange phenomenon exists.
Perhaps there are many more scenes worthy of mentioning that I failed to
see. I have not tried to tell you that these formations are nor how nor when
they came into existence. I have tried only to tell you what I saw. And in
this country of Ireland, where legends and myths have held people
breathless, what more satisfying explanation could be forthcoming than the
legend that this whole business of the Causeway is worthy of the Giants?
P.S. I didn't make a wish at all. By the time it came my turn I had, between
drowned sounds of convulsive merriment, swallowed the water.
