Chef du Pont
was a shambles in 1944.
British ex-pat Kenneth Lewis spent the last few months seeking the
site of this street of bombed houses. Nine miles from Chef
du Pont he located the row of houses and the street, and the
water tower. |
Same
Scene in 2011
Note the top bowl of the water tower seen emerging from the
right hand side of the newly erected church steeple.
Similarities of the buildings are heightened by the ornate steel
gates in both photos halfway along the row of houses on the
left.
Also note that the soldier who stood on the right of the photo has now
become a nun!
