earned jump wings in this classic sepia tone portrait.
Jim served was a member of an .81 mm mortar squad from 1942 -45. He
jumped on D-Day and landed near St. Mere Eglise. He jumped again
in Operation Market Garden. It was there he earned the nickname
"Doc" when one of his buddies was wounded and he stopped to help.
He spent another year in the army after the war training paratroopers on
the "big tower" at Fort Benning. |
