Dear 508er,
It is
indeed a pleasure for me to have this opportunity to
welcome you to this, our third reunion. In July 1974, even
my wildest dreams did not include such an event.
In July
1974, my mailing list consisted of 8 current addresses.
The 8 men, all from Hq Co., 1st Bn., were the first to hear
of my idea to have a reunion. Their enthusiasm kindled the
fires in my boiler and we were off. Our mailing list is now
well over 500 and includes honorary members in England, France, Holland
and Belgium.
Our mailing
list, our association and this third great reunion
are all the result of the enthusiasm of every 508er that has
been found. None of this would have been possible without the
eager assistance of each of you.
Over the
years I have been very fortunate. I had loving parents,
I have a great lady for a wife, we have two children that we are
quite proud of and two grandchildren that we spoil regularly.
For all this I am extremely grateful.
I have
also been honored on various occasions for which I am
also grateful. But, no honor or award can equal the satisfaction
of having been President of the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment
Association. It has been a heartwarming experience. Thanks
to
all of you for having faith in me. I'll remember this special
part of my life forever.
Best Airborne
Wishes and
Soft Landings Always
/s/ O.B.
