SITREPS 508/1

GOOD NEWS STORIES OF THE WEEK:

- On 10 AUG 2016, the 1-508 PIR Command Team took WWII Legend and Honorary Command Sergeant Major of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, CSM (ret) Rock Merritt, out to lunch to celebrate his 93rd birthday. Rock made both of the 508 PIR's combat jumps into Normandy and Holland [storyboard attached].

THIS WEEK / INTEROPERABILITY:

This week, CPT Kyle Frazer (HHC commander and Personnel Outload OIC) continued to conduct outload operations for Main Bodies 1-3 to JRTC. 155 x Paratroopers from B Coy, 3 PARA executed five ranges this week alongside 1-508 PIR [storyboards attached]. On Monday, B Co conducted a zero range for 3 PARA's 112 x SA80 riflemen and 25 x LMG/GRMG machine gunners which resulted in zeroing all British Paratroopers in preparation for the battalion live fire. HHC also conducted a long range marksmanship exercise with 12 x British designated marksmen and snipers on their L129A1 long range rifles. D Co simultaneously conducted Reconfigurable Vehicle Tactical Convoy Trainer (RVTT) with British Paratroopers. To complete 3 PARA's rifle qualifications, C Co executed an EST on Tuesday and a rifle qualification range on Wednesday for 112 x Paratroopers.

NEXT WEEK:

Next week, 1-508 PIR will execute six ranges for B/3 Para, including small arms zero/qual, machine gun zero/qual, a sniper range, the RVTT, and the EST. 1-508 PIR will conduct personnel outload and deploy with Main Bodies 1, 2, and 3.

LEADER DEVELOPMENT:
- 1-508 PIR has four Paratroopers in Ranger School (1 x Darby, 3 x Florida).
- 1-508 PIR graduated one new Jumpmaster (1LT Naber) with PWAC late last week and we have one future Jumpmaster on the "Needs PWAC" roster.

BUILD READY AND RESILIENT PARATROOPERS AND FAMILIES:
On Wednesday, 1-508 PIR hosted a battalion FRG meeting at the Pope FRG Center. 2LT Bledsoe, the battalion FRL, coordinated the venue as well as arranged pizza and drinks for the families of 1Fury Paratroopers who attended.

MAINTENANCE and EQUIPMENT:
1-508 PIR has completed all overdue services, with zero remaining for the battalion.
