CUBS ONE WIN FROM A CINCH ON PENNANT:
Paul Derringer chalked up his 16th straight victory today in the first game
of a double header against Cincinnati. Paul took good care of a two
run lead handed him early in the game when Nicholson doubled bringing in one
run and being driven in himself by "Peanuts" Hallorys homer. The first game ended
3 to 1 for the Cubs. The second game was a free hitting slugfest winding up with the Cubs in a
7 to l win.
CARDS FALL TO PIRATES:
The Pirates gave St. Louis an unpleasant jolt today,
knocking out a decisive
5 to 2 victory. This makes all Cardinal hopes of
taking a crack at the pennant hopeless.
YANKS ANNIHILATE ATHLETICS:
Red Ruffing pitched this game with good support from a heavy
slugging group of teammates. At no time were the Yankees even threatened.

RIOTS THROUGHOUT THE EAST
Saigon: a major in the American Army killed,
and one other American officer injured by
rioters in Indo-China. The cost of riots in Saigon has rise to 19 dead by
Saturday noon. In Bombay, Hindus and Moslems furnished their share in the
general turmoil by continuous religious rioting in the streets which resulted in
17 killed,75 wounded, and 150 arrests. The near east followed suit but not
to such bloody extent. One British constable was shot to death by two
young agitators after he refused to turn over the public mail in Palestine.
U.S. STATE DEPT. TO REVIEW POLICY ON
ARGENTINA
Neighboring South American republics have
joined in a scathing protest against the present government of Argentina. In Argentina
itself, the nation is the scene of great violence and bloodshed. In direct violation of solemn
pledges to the contrary, the Clique of Col. Perron has plunged Argentina back
into a state of Siege. The Army has resorted to the use of firearms to break up demonstrations of the
people. The Colonels seem determined to completely destroy all opposition. Hundreds have been
arrested and are being held incognito. Thousands of other Argentine citizens
are trying to flee the country. It is a rare family in Argentina today which does not have at least one member in jail or in hiding.
Conciliation soon forthcoming in oil strike, last minute radio prediction.
