EDUCATION BENEFITS
Under the GI Bill you can attend any school in the USA, provided it has been approved
BY the Vets
Administration. The Govt will pay up to $500. per year tuition. This will cover laboratory,
library, health, infirmary,
and similar other fees. It will also pay for books, supplies, equipment, and other necessary
expenses, not including traveling and living expense. You will receive a living allowance of
$50. a month if single without dependents, and $75. a month if you have one or more. (A Bill has
been proposed in Congress to increase these amounts but IT HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED). Any
eligible person cab take 12 months of free schooling or training (or time equal to it in part-time
study) at an approved institution, or a lesser time if sufficient to complete the course of instruction is chosen.
Upon satisfactory completion of the year of study, you may continue up to
an additional 36 months, BUT NOT TO EXCEED THE LENGTH OF SERVICE YOU HAVE HAD
SINCE 16 SEPTEMBER 1940. Two years Service
will allow you to take 4 years of college. For Example, if you had 2 years of Service
after 16 Sept 1940, you would be entitled to 36 months of schooling since everyone is entitled
to one year outright, plus your two years, gives you the above 36 months. Types of Schools
approved are Public or private elementary, secondary, and other
schools furnishing education for adults,
business schools, and colleges, normal schools, scientific and technica1 institutions, colleges,
vocational schools, junior colleges; teachers
colleges, professional schools, universities, and other educational institutions. You may also
choose
appprentice or other training on the job. In some localities, special schools on various
educational level arc being set up for Vets. If you have gone as far as the Third Grade, but hesitate about going back because you may feel
strange in such a class of kids, these special schools
may fill the bill for you. They will be mad6 up of fellows in the same spot as you. When you get
hone and want to apply for any of this, go to the nearest regional office of the Veterans Administration, or to the school you want to attend, they will
have all the information for you. I & E

There's a story told about the Privates
girl that is now going out with a Second Lieutenant:
she used to be an enlisted man girl, but now
she's an officers mess.
What T/Sgt is now known as "short circuit"
since his narrow escape with the ships PA system.
Then there is the PFC who fell in the chow
line and sweated it out for two hours only to find that it
was a line into the latrine

Boston Boys:
According to your first edition, you said the Madawaska Victory was headed for New York. I'm
from Boston--why don't they put the men from Boston on a Boston Boat?

Hungry:
Why is it we can't get enough food to eat. I am always hungry after returning from
my meals. The
food is cooked very well but I just can't get enough to fill myself up.
