Army Pvt. Wilfred A. Vachon Jr.,
son of Mr.
and Mrs. Wilfred Vachon of Windham Avenue, is participating
in the multi-national peace-keeping force and observers as
the primary U.S. military contingent in the Sinai. He is a
member of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry, Fort Bragg,
N.C..

Spec. 4 LeAnne Roberts, daughter of Harold and Sherry Roberts of
Route 2, Van Buren, is a member of the 2nd Battalion, 508th
Infantry, Fort Bragg, N.C., participating in the multi-national
peace keeping force and observers (MFO) as the primary U.S.
military contingent in the Sinai.
The MFO, an independent agency responsible to the governments of
Israel and Egypt, was established as a result of the 1979
Egypt-Israel peace treaty.
The mission of the airborne unit is to operate check points and
observation posts and conduct reconnaissance patrols along the
Sinai Peninsula. The peninsula is located on the southeast
shores of the Mediterranean Sea and extends eastward from the
Suez Canal to Israel and southward from the Mediterranean to the
Red Sea.
The unit will be the third U.S. contingent to serve with the MFO,
replacing the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry of Fort Campbell,
Ky.
She is a 1979 graduate of Potosi High School.
