Many of the units that
trained at Camp Blanding were non-parachuting infantry. These so-called
"foot soldiers" took enormous casualties in assault landings such as portrayed
in the Normandy landing sequences in the movie "Saving Private Ryan".
Those units are all memorialized in Blanding's gardens.

30th Infantry Division The :Old Hickory" unit
earned five battle stars for its participation in campaigns including Normandy
