Confirmation
On May 3, 1948. Effie Stauffer sent a collect telegram responding to a
request that she confirm information sent earlier regarding James' return
home.
The telegram that she responded to is not available but it
undoubtedly listed details regarding name, rank and serial number of her
son as well as the intended destination, etc. |
Receipt
of Remains
A form letter from the Quartermaster Corps was sent to the
McCardell Funeral home notifying them that James' casket would arrive in
Cresson, PA at 5:51 pm, May 14, 1948.
The McCardell morticians then
transported James' casket to Burnside, PA for a funeral service and interment in a
local cemetery. |
Report
of Burial This document was prepared by the Graves Registration
Services teams and sent to the next of kin for each man that was buried in
a temporary cemetery.
The document fully details the individual by name, rank
and serial number including a copy of the man's dog tag.
Also listed are the personal effects which presumably were
sent to James' mother. |

The
Blosville-Carentan cemetery was established as a temporary cemetery to
accommodate the burials of those killed in action during the early stages
of the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal
and the Purple Heart According to the
Report of Burial (at let) the grave of Pvt. Roy Chipman, also of Company
F, 508th was immediately to the right of Pvt.
